Yvon Chouinard, founder of the clothing company Patagonia and co-founder of California Water Impact
Network (C-WIN) is speaking out with concern for California’s water policy.
He says, “this tunnels project . . . is going to double water bills for every single person in California and
this is just for the sake of a few giant industrial agriculture interests.”
He also exposes “paper water”. He describes it as “fake water – water that the government and
corporations tell us exists but really doesn’t exist.” He says, “in reality, we only have 1/5 of that water left
in California.”
Yvon goes on to say, “The Public Trust Doctrine is a very effective method to use in the courts. It’s been
used in the Mono Lake case where we stopped Los Angeles from stealing the water from Mono Lake and I
believe it can be used to stop this crazy scheme of the twin tunnels. The Public Trust Doctrine is
embedded in our Constitution and it states that our natural resources including water belongs to the
people and serve the needs of the people.” (See full video here)
