About C-WIN
Our Vision: Equitable and sustainable water policy for all Californians.
"C-WIN is the only organization fighting for the equitable distribution of California’s water. They have achieved remarkable results…and will not compromise bedrock principles.”
Huey Johnson, former California Secretary of Resources
The California Water Impact Network is a non-profit, tax exempt California corporation that advocates for the equitable and sustainable use of California’s fresh water resources for all Californians.
C-WIN has a proven track record of success defending the rights of the public for California’s water resources.
Some highlights:
In July 2016, Sacramento Superior Court Judge Michael Kenny substantiated C-WIN’s conclusion that then Governor Brown’s plan to divert water from the California Delta estuary did not conform to state law, containing only “recommendations” for water export flows—not clear, quantifiable and enforceable targets. The “WaterFix” project was halted for 1-2 years.
The C-WIN team authored the groundbreaking Santa Barbara Report, demonstrating that the proposed Delta Plan had the potential to bankrupt cities reliant on water from the California Delta estuary. This report gave C-WIN a seat at the table with the County Board of Supervisors, four regional water agencies and Governor Brown’s special advisor for the Delta, Bruce Babbitt. The report was entered into evidence at the State Water Resources Control Board hearings that halted the Twin Tunnels project.
In 2019, C-WIN and its partners secured a landmark settlement agreement with the California State Water Resources Control Board to uphold the common law Public Trust Doctrine and other legal protections for imperiled fish species in the Sacramento River and San Francisco Bay/Sacramento – San Joaquin Delta Estuary.
